Dissertation: A Content Analysis Study of Portable Assisted Study Sequence Mathematics Curricular Materials for Migrant Students using the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards

Recipient: Harold Hodgkinson Outstanding Dissertation Award. The Harold L. Hodgkinson Award is bestowed annually upon a Walden graduate whose dissertation is judged as meeting the highest university standards of academic excellence.

Karen provides expert coding, online training, and consultation services for students, faculty, and professional researchers. Having served as faculty member and on dissertation committees at The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walden University in the Ph.D. program, she is cognizant of the variety of research designs within qualitative research methodology. This educational background and experience provides knowledge and respect for the rigor and ethical boundaries required in various doctoral programs.

Karen became one of the first independent research consultants for QSR software upon completion of her doctoral studies in which she utilized QSR NUDIST 3. She formed DataSense, LLC in 1998.

Previous teaching experience includes adjunct faculty at university level in mathematics and statistics, and a CA credentialed mathematics teacher at the secondary level. Other experience includes writing for the educational market and several years in financial brokerage and accounting. Grant writing experience includes technology grants funded by General Electric and the State of California

Kaarstin became a valuable member of DataSense, LLC, in 1998 when the company was formed. She is responsible for all transcribing and editing services, as well as other aspects of the company.

Prior experience includes CA credentialed mathematics teacher at the secondary level, environmental technician for a major corporation, and writing for the educational market.
